Little League Softball: South Williamsport Wins 8-9-10 Eastern Regional

South Williamsport softball couldn’t be stopped all week, and it left Jenkins Twp. Little League with an 8-9-10 Eastern Regional championship Thursday. Pennsylvania’s champions took on New Jersey’s Wallington/Lodi team in the final and won, 7-2. The team took the title starting with a 3-run outburst in the top of the first inning, followed by a pair of runs in the third before New Jersey crossed the plate once.

South Williamsport defeated Maine state champion Windham in a 3-0 one-hitter during the morning’s semifinals and waited as Wallington/Lodi topped Connecticut’s Milford squad, 3-2. Then, Pennsylvania capped off a 6-0 run through the regional touranment. South Williamsport dominated from beginning to end. It led all regional teams with 36 runs scored and tied Connecticut — which played only four games — by allowing eight runs total. Two wins came by shutout, including Thursday’s semifinal victory as well as a 2-0 one-hitter over New Jersey during the Mid Atlantic’s pool play.
