Wisconsin-Green Bay Wins Horizon League
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) _ Kristy Loiselle and Natalie Yudt scored 17 points each as No. 21 Wisconsin-Green Bay won its fifth Horizon League tournament title in six years with an 83-59 victory over Detroit on Sunday.
The win gives the Phoenix (27-3) an automatic berth in the NCAA women’s tournament.
Wisconsin-Green Bay, playing in its eighth straight tournament final, beat a conference opponent on its home court for the 40th straight time and knocked off Detroit (10-20) in the championship for the second straight year. The Phoenix, who beat the Titans for the 15th straight time overall, are 22-4 all-time in the tournament.
Loiselle, the tournament’s most valuable player, had 12 of her points in the first half. Chandra Johnson finished with 15 points and Sara Boyer added 11.
Lori Wild led Detroit with 12 points.
Wisconsin-Green Bay missed its first four shots of the game but regrouped and went on a 20-4 run to take a 28-12 lead. But Detroit closed the gap with a 9-4 burst late in the half. Caitie Goddard hit a jumper with 1 second left to make it 38-27.
Yudt, who had 15 second-half points, scored eight in a 14-7 run after the intermission to give the Phoenix a 52-34 lead. The Titans never got closer than 16 points the rest of the way.
