On a per-share basis, the Redwood City, California-based company said it had a loss of 10 cents.

The results surpassed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 23 cents per share.

The cancer therapy developer posted revenue of $6.9 million in the period.

The company's shares closed at $2.09. A year ago, they were trading at $3.04.
