Parts of Turks and Caicos still flooded from storm
PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands (AP) — Property owners and at least one school on the main island of the Turks and Caicos Islands are still coping with flood waters more than a week after being hit by a tropical storm.
The storm called Cristobal dumped heavy rain on Providenciales island before it strengthened into a hurricane and moved into the Atlantic.
Virginia Clerveaux, who directs the disaster management office for the British territory, said in a statement Monday that full recovery would take another week. While most major roads have been cleared of floodwaters, Clerveaux says a primary school and private yards are still inundated on Providenciales.
Authorities are treating the stagnant waters to keep mosquito larvae at bay.
