Fresno State 68, BYU 66

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) _ Seth Marshall hit two free throws in the final 11 seconds Tuesday night, lifting Fresno State to a 68-66 victory over Brigham Young in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament.

Marshall, who scored 19 points, hit one of two free throws with 11 seconds left to give Fresno State (21-10) a 67-64 lead.

Randy Reid hit two free throws with nine seconds left for BYU (22-10), cutting the lead to one. Marshall answered with another one of two from the line with five seconds left.

BYU had a chance to send the game into overtime, but Kenneth Roberts missed a 10-foot jumper from the baseline as time expired.

Carl Ray Harris led all scorers with 21 points for Fresno State, which will play Kansas State in the quarterfinals.

Reid, who had 12 points in the second half, and Russell Larson led BYU with 13 points each. Roberts finished with 12 points.

BYU, after trailing by eight at halftime, came back to take a 59-53 lead with just over five minutes left in the game. Fresno State came back with a 12-1 run over the next four minutes to lead 65-60.

Fresno State had a chance to ice the game at the free throw line, but hit just 4-of-10 attempts in the final five minutes.
