William “Bill” Hitchcock, 55. of rural Lake Delton, navigated the road to heaven on Thursday Oct. 4, 2018, from his residence.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018, at the Delton Fire Department, 45 Miller Drive, Lake Delton, with the Rev. Ellen Rasmussen officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the Delton Fire Department.

Bill was born July 1, 1963, in Portage. He was the son of David and Carolyn (Jansen) Hitchcock. Bill was a lifelong resident of the Dells area and known by many people. When he was young he attended Trinity Lutheran School, K-8 with a portion of that time at Lake Delton Elementary, moving on to the Wisconsin Dells High School. His work career began at the Hitchcock family gas station with automotive repairs and towing but his true calling was in law enforcement. Bill eventually became a police officer with the Lake Delton Police Department which invested in him by sending him to police science training at MATC Madison where he graduated and became full time with the department and served proudly for 27 years, retiring as a sergeant. Bill always referred to Bob Fawcett, captain with Lake Delton Police Department, as his inspiration and mentor. Bill will long be remembered for his unique sense of humor, quick wit/sarcasm, playful jokes and kind, compassionate heart.

Bill is survived by his mother, Carolyn Hitchcock; dear special friend, Lori Jo Johnson; sons, Jeremiah (Sarah) Johnson of Wisconsin Dells and Samuel (Nina) Brant of Baraboo; grandchildren, Rudy and Payton Johnson and Lilyan, Violet and Clark Brant; a brother, Jeffery of Rockton, Illinois; sisters, Kristin Ziech and Deanne (Adam) Borleske both of Wisconsin Dells; one niece, three nephews, two great-nieces and one great-nephew.

He was preceded in death by his father, David.

In lieu of flowers, memorials of remembrance will be accepted in the form of donations to the Delton Fire Department or the Lake Delton Police charity Kops for Kids. Any cash donations will be split.
