AROUND THE STATE:

KETCHIKAN OFFICIALS-FREE CRUISE

KETCHIKAN _ Ketchikan’s mayor and city manager accepted a free cruise to Los Angeles, which they said allowed them to continue talks with those in the private sector as the city looks to expands berths for cruise ships. It’s the same trip the mayor and city manager from Juneau was to attend, until the assembly said no. UPCOMING: 300 words by 10 a.m.

UA-HUMAN RESOURCES REORGANIZATION

FAIRBANKS _ The University of Alaska has issued lay-off notices to 48 employees as part of an overhaul of its human resources department. The employees will be eligible to apply for jobs in the reorganized department. UPCOMING: 300 words by 11 a.m.

IN BRIEF:

_ FATAL HIT AND RUN _ Anchorage police are investigating an apparent early morning hit-and-run crash.

_ CHILD DEATH _ A 32-year-old Anchorage man has been indicted in the death of a child in his care 11 months ago.
