TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) _ Shawn Latimer scored 22 points to pace Southwest Missouri St. to a 78-68 Missouri Valley Conference win Monday night.

The Bears (16-10, 9-9 MVC) shot a solid 48 percent from the floor for the game, and canned 7 of 16 from 3-point range. Johnny Murdock scored 21 points and Ben Kandlbinder added 13 to the winning effort.

Indiana St. (7-19 3-15 MVC) couldn't overcome a dismal first half performance. The Sycamores managed only a 26 percent field goal mark before the break.

``That was a heartbreaker,'' said Indiana St. coach Sherman Dillard. ``I was proud of the way our guys didn't quit and fought back there in the second half.''

Mike Jovanovich's 3-pointer with 1:51 left to play cut the Bears lead to 68-63. But SW Missouri St. was solid from the charity stripe, canning 7 of 9 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

Jovanovich led the Sycamores with 23 points and Matt Burgess added 13.
