KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) _ Flash floods in northeastern Afghanistan killed 35 people, destroyed hundreds of homes and devastated acres of agricultural land, Radio Shariat reported Tuesday.

The flooding in the Kunar province inundated villages in the Asmar Valley, northeast of the Afghan capital of Kabul, according to Radio Shariat, which is run by the Afghan government. The report said the Kunar River overflowed its banks on Sunday.

Floods have ravaged large areas of Afghanistan in recent months. Scores of people have died and hundreds of homes have been destroyed as rivers roared across homes made of sun-baked mud.
