Wiley’s General Store re-opens for business
RIVERTON TWP. — Brenda Glover and her fiancé Tony Lopez bought Wiley’s General Store, and they brought it back to life this week in Riverton Township.
“I’ve always wanted this store, whenever I go by,” Glover said. “I just have. It’s something I’ve always wanted.”
Wiley’s General Store was owned by Charles and Nancy Kiefer. The Kiefers operated the store at the corner of Scottville and Meisenheimer roads in the remnants of the town of Wiley. The store was closed some time after Nancy died in 2008.
It remained that way until Sunday, Sept. 9, when Glover and Lopez reopened it.
“I’ve been saving, and this is what I really wanted,” she said. “I finally found what I wanted.”
Glover said she used to work for someone else in her career, but after 17 years, she felt she needed to make a change and become her own boss. She bought the property in July — which not only includes the store, but also a residence behind it — and she and her fiancé set about cleaning the store up.
“It’s been a very long, long process,” she said, noting that she started looking at the property before last winter.
The store was essentially how it was the day it closed. Glover said she and Lopez needed to clean up and clean out several things that were left over from when the store closed some seven years ago or so.
