October 12, 2018

Veronica Pinkerton finished fifth in the B-3 District Cross Country Meet on Thursday, qualifying her for the state meet next week.

Pinkerton finished with a time of 20:27.02. The top 15 individual finishers advance to state.

The top three teams advance to state and after qualifying last year, the Lady O was hoping to make state as a team again this year. They finished in fourth, though, just outside of qualifying.

Lincoln Pius X won the team championship with a score of 19 while Norris was second with a score of 47 and Aurora was third with a score of 50. Those three teams will represent the B-3 District at state next week.

The Lady O’s next best finisher was Trinity Eichenberger, who finished 18th. That was three spots shy of qualifying individually.

Sarah Price, Lauren Pieper and Josie Guernsey finished 24th, 25th and 26th respectively while Linda Humble finished 35th.

The winning time was turned in by Lizzy Kramer of Lincoln Pius X with a time of 19:42.13 while Aurora’s Maya Nachtigal finished second with a time of 20:03.10 and Lincoln Pius X’s Laura Martin finished third at 20:13.16.

The Norris girls will be competing at state next week after their second place finish. Samantha Palermo led the way for the Lady Titans with a fourth place finish while Libby Gourlay finished sixth.

Maya Hutzler finished 16th for the Titans while Hannah Susie finished 21st, Brooke Pfeiffer finished 28th and Sydney Hobza finished 34th.

The Norris boys will send two runners to state, including B-3 District Champion Zachary VanBrocklin. He finished with a time of 16:41.29, which beat Lincoln Pius X’s Gavin Skorupa’s second place time of 16:51.53.

Joining VanBrocklin at state will be his teammate Zachary Pittman, who finished 12th.

The Beatrice boys were unable to qualify any runners for state. Noah Hagemeier finished 31st for the Orangemen while Evan Oltmans finished 34th, Connor Hamilton finished 38th, Evan Witulski finished 42nd and Devin Smith finished 43rd

The Beatrice boys finished eighth in the team standings. The boys teams representing the B-3 District at state next week will be first place Aurora, second place Lincoln Pius X and third place Columbus.

Fairbury was able to qualify one girl for state. Josephine Blatny finished seventh in the C-3 District, qualifying her for Class C State.

Tri County’s Niemeyer, JCC’s McDonald win D-1 District

Tri County’s Creighton Niemeyer was able to win the D-1 District Cross Country Meet with a time of 17:05.91.

He will be one of three Trojan runners competing in Class D. Evan Larson finished 14th and Logan Larson finished 15th, which sends them both to state.

Wilber-Clatonia was in the same district and will be sending one runner to state. Thomas Lokken finished fifth.

The Tri County girls also qualified for state. Andie Koch led the way for the Lady Trojans with a fifth place finish while Ella Crawford finished sixth and Savannah Gerlach finished 13th.

Johnson County Central’s Ashlei McDonald won the D-1 District Championship with a time of 20:01.09 and will also be going to state.
