Legacy Committee OK’s $500,000 for planetarium
In a 7-2 vote Wednesday, Fort Wayne’s Legacy Joint Funding Committee recommended $500,000 in funding for a new planetarium at Science Central.
The proposal was placed on hold last year after Science Central Executive Director Martin Fisher was told to sort out fundraising questions related to the project. Fisher sat quietly for more than 45 minutes Wednesday as the committee argued over the role of the committee.
Consensus emerged that the panel needs more clarification on the criteria it should use when considering funding project proposals.
The Legacy Fund consists of money generated by the lease and sale of the city’s old power utility.
