Heritage Festival begins Friday in Johnsonville
JOHNSONVILLE, S.C. – The Johnsonville Heritage Festival At the River will return to Venters’ Landing Friday and Saturday.
This year’s festival will begin at 5 p.m. Friday. Live music and cooking contests, including a chili cook-off and cake-baking contest, will be hosted at the landing. Judging for the contests will begin at 7 p.m. and winners will be announced at 10 p.m.
Winners of the chili cook-off will receive:
First place – $300Second Place – $200Third Place – $ 100
Additional prizes will be given for the fourth-, fifth- and sixth-place winners.
Cake entries will be accepted from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Friday. Winners will receive:
First place – $100Second place – $75Third place – $50Fourth through sixth place – $25
All cake entries will be auctioned off after judging.
The Josh Brannon Band will perform Friday.
The opening ceremony for Saturday’s festivities will begin at 10 a.m. Activities will go on until 5 p.m. and will include free canoe, kayak and pontoon board rides, free face painting by Ha-Ha the Clown, a balloon artist and the Palmetto Cruisers Car, Truck and Bike Show.
The Coker Family Gospel Group will perform at 10:30 a.m. Introduction of the Heritage Festival beauty queens will start at noon.
A barbecue chicken cook-off will be held on Saturday and winners will be announced at 1 p.m. All remaining chicken from the cook-off will be sold.

Additional prizes will be given for fourth-, fifth- and sixth-place winners.
Other activities on Saturday include militia soldiers, candle making, a rock wall, trackless train rides, assorted games and vendors.
Committee members for this year’s festival are Ron Douglas, Kem Poston, Joan Lentz, Shannon Tippett, Lucy Godwin, Tammy Stewart, Melinda Howard, Teresa Humphries and Marlene Rollins.
Venters’ Landing is at 714 Kingsburg Highway.
