LHS Tracksters Impress at Meet
ROXBURY -- The Lowell High boys track team enjoyed a successful day at the Boston Holiday Challenge hosted by the Mass. Track Coaches Association at the Lewis Center.
The meet attracted over 80 teams from across New England and New York.
The Red Raiders were led by junior Meet MVP Richmond Kwaateng, who won the long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 1/2 inches.
Kwaateng was also second in the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.58 and ended the meet in the 4x200m relay, where he joined with Andrews Bonsu, Sammy Mutiso and David Ajama to place fourth with a state qualifying time of 1:33.94.
Ajma was second in the high jump at 6 feet, 7 inches. Bonso was fifth in the 55-meter dash with a clocking of 6.68 seconds. Mutiso placed third in the 55-meter hurdles final with a time of 7.83 seconds, a top-5 time in LHS history. Darrin Div was eighth in the event at 8.0
Jadiel Pinales, Kevin Santana, Ricky Thyne and Juan Giron grabbed third in the 4x800 relay (8:26.72).
Seniors Ben Kyeremeh (second place in shot put at 51-3, eighth in weight throw) and Brian Callary (sixth in shot put at 48-7, 10th in weight throw) led the LHS field performers.
Nathan Petterson (4:57.60) and David Vandi (4:58.88) were fourth and eighth in the freshman mile.
The Red Raiders are back in action Thursday at Boston University in a dual meet with Central Catholic that has potential MVC title implications.
