The rubble of a house that burned down earlier this year on Falcon Park Road in Lower Burrell was intentionally being burned by its owner and a passerby summoned the fire department. Aug. 23, 2018

A Lower Burrell property owner’s plans to finish demolishing a vacant structure by fire were snuffed out by emergency responders.

The home, at 907 Falcon Park Road, burned down in March.

Its owner was in the process of demolition Thursday evening when flames caught the eye of a passing motorist, who then called 911.

“I understand what he was doing, but he left it unattended,” said Tony Errico, first assistant fire chief of Lower Burrell Volunteer Fire Co. No. 3. “We’re going to come and put it out. It was a controlled burn, no danger of it spreading.”

Errico said he spoke with the homeowner, who plans to rebuild.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident. Lower Burrell police assisted with traffic around the scene.
