Hallmark Issues Four Cards Designed For U.S. Troops

February 21, 1991

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ Hallmark Cards Inc. said four cards especially designed for U.S. troops in the Persian Gulf and their families have been sent to retailers and should be available by the end of February.

Renee Hershey, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City-based company, said the cards were designed in response to customer inquiries and were delivered in an accelerated schedule. It normally takes 18-24 months to produce new cards.

All of the new cards come in pastel colors.

One, for example, features an American flag outside a country home. It reads: ″It take a special person to serve our country. You must be proud to know you’re making a difference.″

Ms. Hershey said she could not disclose how many of the cards the company has distributed, but she said the cards have already gone into a second printing.

″Because the cards were developed in response to requests, the initial response has been very strong,″ Ms. Hershey said.

She said that before the cards were available, the company had referred customers to about 100 other cards that offer general comforting messages.

″We find that people have a need to express their feelings during times like these, and our cards help them to do that,″ Ms. Hershey said.
