Students win Harlingen spelling bee
You don’t need a law degree to win a spelling bee.
Thursday night three Early College High School students walked away winners of the Literacy Center of Harlingen’s “Great Killer Bee” Corporate Spelling Bee Fundraiser.
Alyssa Davila, 15, and her teammates, Aaron Vidaurri, 16, and David Travis, 15, huddled together and deliberated how to spell the word "sauerbraten".
The students defeated second place winners HCISD board member Eladio Jaimez, attorney Jim Young and his wife Jessica.
The students say they started studying in May. The spelling bee raised $6,000 for the literacy center.
