FELTON, Del. (AP) — A Delaware man is accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and holding her against her will over her refusal to unlock her cell phone.
Delaware State Police said in a release the 24-year-old woman told investigators she and 23-year-old Cahlil N. Simmons argued over a message she received on her phone at his house Monday. Police say he held her down and choked her when she refused to give him the device, and then forced her into his car and drove around while threatening her.
Police say he brought her to the mall the next morning to find a store that would unlock the phone. She escaped and approached security.
Simmons fled and was later arrested on charges of kidnaping, assault and other offenses. It’s unclear whether he has a lawyer.
