GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (AP) _ A 22-foot Coast Guard patrol boat struck a canoe, killing one person, authorities said Monday.

Coast Guard Seaman Apprentice William Kozlowski was killed when the canoe he was in was hit Sunday, said Lt. Frank Pile of the Coast Guard station at Government Basin in Grand Haven.

The patrol boat came alongside the canoe in Lake Michigan and the sole Coast Guardsman aboard spoke with Kozlowski and Coast Guardsman Geoffrey John, who also was in the canoe.

''When the 22-footer revved up its engines to move, it made an abrupt turn and collided with the canoe,'' Pile said. ''It went over the top of the canoe.''

John was treated for minor injuries. Pile said the name of the operator of the patrol boat was withheld pending an investigation.
