Butler 75, Maryland-Eastern Shore 44
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Kesley Wilson scored 15 points off the bench to lead Butler to a 75-44 win Saturday over Maryland-Eastern Shore in the season-opener for both teams.
Butler jumped out to a 15-2 lead with 11:55 to play in the first half, and Maryland-Eastern Shore didn’t get closer than 10 points the rest of the game. The Bulldogs led 37-21 at halftime as Wilson scored nine points.
The Fighting Hawks’ hopes of a comeback ended early in the second half after back-to-back layups by Wilson made it 51-26 with 13:36 to play.
Jon Neuhouser scored 12, Matthew Graves 11 and Rolf van Rijn 10 for Butler, which hit 28 of 57 shots for 49 percent for the game. Graves hit 3 of 4 3-pointers.
Forward Chris Miskel, last year’s leading scorer for the Bulldogs, was held to seven points but grabbed nine rebounds in 24 minutes.
Aaron McKinney led the Fighting Hawks with 18 points. The Bulldogs held Maryland-Eastern Shore to 26 percent shooting from the field (15 of 57).
Butler outrebounded the Fighting Hawks 46-19.
