SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) _ Chad Hopkins hit a three-run homer as Bellevue, Neb., beat Cumberland, Tenn., 8-5 Friday in the final game of the NAIA Baseball National Championships.
Hopkins homered in the bottom of the fifth to give the Bruins a 6-5 lead. Bellevue (57-13) scored two more runs in the bottom of the seventh on RBI singles from Keith Marco and Chris Puszewski to ensure its first national baseball championship.
Donald Kiviniemi (7-4) was the winner, while Greg Gerland (9-5) took the loss.
Cumberland junior right-hander Kevin Hite threw 2 1-3 scoreless innings for the Bulldogs (49-19) to set a NAIA World Series record of 20 1-3 consecutive scoreless innings pitched. After setting the record, Hite was chosen to the All-Tournament team.
