Md. Mayors Announce Move to GOP Party
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) _ Two Eastern Shore mayors announced Friday they are switching parties and joining Maryland’s Republican ranks.
Denton Mayor Victoria Goldsborough stood alongside Gov. Robert Ehrlich and Lt. Gov. Michael Steele as she announced her decision to leave the Independent Party.
Goldsborough was registered as a Republican 38 years ago, she said, and considered the switch a return to her roots.
Easton Mayor Robert Willey said he’s changing his party affiliation from Democratic to Republican.
President Bush’s office is to send both mayors a letter commemorating their switch, said Shareese DeLeaver, an Ehrlich spokeswoman. Goldsborough and Willey said they are happy with their positions and aren’t seeking out political appointments in return, she said.
``This is about their dedication and a change in their thinking,″ she said.
