September 19, 2018

NORFOLK - The Norfolk Public Library will be hosting an event called Playing Around with Words.

The writing workshop with Nebraska State Poet Twyla Hansen will focus on the creative process for both poetry and short prose.

Librarian Karen Drevo says they are very fortunate to have the workshop with Hansen who was born and raised on a farm near the Northeast Nebraska town of Lyons.

“She has a Bachelor’s degree in horticulture and her Master’s degree in Agroecology from the University of Nebraska. She has written numerous books of poetry and has won many awards. She is also our third Nebraska State Poet and the very first woman to hold that position. She was appointed by Governor Dave Heineman in 2013.”

Drevo says Hansen will use readings of her own and others’ writing, along with guided writing exercises to create an interactive and supportive workshop.

She says the event is for beginning and seasoned writer’s middle school through adult.

The free event will take place at the Library Thursday evening from 6:30 to 7:30 in meeting room C.

No registration is necessary.
