Big fourth quarter helps Oakland triumph at Central Linn

January 6, 2019

HALSEY — Central Linn hung with fourth-ranked Oakland for three quarters, but the Oakers pulled away with a 35-point outburst in the final period to take an 80-61 win on Saturday night in a Central Valley Conference boys basketball game.

Colton Brownson had 20 points, seven assists and three blocked shots for the Oakers (12-1, 2-0 CVC). Triston Mask contributed 18 points, including six 3-pointers, and Jacob Brooksby chipped in 14 points.

Noah Strempel had nine points, seven boards and five assists in the victory.

Mask and Brooksby led the fourth quarter assault, each scoring nine points. The Oakers hit five treys in the period.

Robert Rowland led the Cobras (7-4, 1-1) with 20 points.

“They’re good, really physical,” Oakland coach Jeff Clark said of the Cobras. “They used a trapping 2-3 zone and it took some time for us to figure it out. The kids battled through and the fourth quarter was solid (offensively). It’s a good win.”

The Oakers will host Oakridge on Tuesday at the Nut House.
