Somerset couple accused of taking copper pipe, wire from vacant trailer

June 5, 2018

A Somerset couple were arraigned Monday on charges that they stole about $100 worth of copper pipe and copper wire from a vacant trailer along David Lane in Somerset Township belonging to the Roof Garden mobile home park.

According to a probable-cause affidavit, Ronald Eugene Phillippi II, 35, and Vanessa Renee Weimer, 32, East Arlington Drive, lived directly behind the vacant trailer at the time of the theft. Phillippi, a maintenance man, had recently been fired from the mobile home park, state police said.

A witness told the park manager that the couple had been seen tearing items from the trailer on the night of May 10.

Phillippi and Weimer were both charged with one count each of burglary, a felony, and lesser-graded offenses of theft of secondary metals, theft by unlawful taking or disposition and receiving stolen property. Preliminary hearings are scheduled to begin at 10:40 a.m. June 12 before Somerset District Judge Ken Johnson.

Phillippi is in the Somerset County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond. Weimer is free on an unsecured $25,000 bond.
