LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) _ Former NBA player Grant Gondrezick was free on $500 bond after a 19-year- old woman accused him of attacking her in his motel room during a season- ending farewell for the La Crosse Catbirds of the Continetal Basketball Association.
Gondrezick, 25, a 6-foot-5 guard, was taken into custody Thursday night at the motel and charged with sexual assault. He faces a court hearing Monday. He also faces hit-and-run traffic charges stemming from a Jan. 29 collision in La Crosse.
A police report quoted the woman as saying she and a friend went to the motel to say goodbye to the players. She said Gondrezick invited her to his motel room, showed her $3,000, offered her a pair of Catbirds shorts and tried to force her to commit sex acts.
CLEVELAND (AP) - Cleveland Cavaliers' center Brad Daugherty has been diagnosed with a moderate right foot sprain sustained in the closing seconds of Thursday night's 102-95 victory over the Washington Bullets.
He was not with the team Friday night in Boston, when the Celtics edged Cleveland 110-108, and will miss Sunday's game in Philadelphia.
The 7-foot Daugherty was examined at the Cleveland Clinic and minimal swelling was reported, according to team spokesman Bob Price.
''At this point, there is no way to say when he might play again,'' Cavaliers trainer Gary Briggs said.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Jimmy Oliver of Purdue scored 25 points and earned MVP honors as the West beat the East 122-113 in the NABC All-Star Game.
The 6-foot-6 forward was 9-for-13 from the field in Friday night's game to lead all scorers in the game involving college seniors. Greg Sutton, a guard from Oral Roberts, had 19 points for the West.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Jan Goossens had a goal and had four assists as the Kansas City Comets extended their winning streak to five games with a 9-4 victory over the Wichita Wings in the Major Soccer League.
Friday's performance lifted Goossens' season totals to 53 goals and 58 assists. He has eight goals and 18 assists in his last five games.
ST. LOUIS (AP) - Thompson Usiyan's second goal of the game and 60th of the season 5:10 into overtime lifted the St. Louis Storm to an 8-7 victory over the Baltimore Blast in the Major Soccer League.
Preki scored three goals and Daryl Doran, Terry Brown and Godfrey Ingram added goals for St. Louis in Friday night's game. Mike Stankovic scored two goals and David Vaudreuil, Joe Barger, Domenic Mobilio, Dominic Feltham and Rusty Troy added goals for Baltimore.
QUESNEL, British Columbia (AP) - Ravil Khaidarov scored two goals as the Soviet Union beat Canada 4-3 in an exhibition game between national teams.
Ravil Yakubov and Igor Malykhin added goals for the Soviet Union in Friday night's game. Craig Endean, Stu Barnes and Dave Archibald scored for Canda.
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) - George Blaha, the radio voice of the Detroit Pistons since 1976, announced his 1,000th game Friday night.
Blaha's first broadcast was Oct. 23, 1976 when the Pistons played the Washington Bullets. No. 1,000 was against the Golden State Warriors.
STOWE, Vt. (AP) - Tiger Shaw, a veteran U.S. ski racer retiring at the end of this season, won a North American championship series slalom race at Mount Mansfield.
Shaw, a two-time Olympian, had a combined time of 1 minute, 50.31 seconds in Friday's race.
