Puerto Rico civilian officer accused of murder
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — A Puerto Rico civilian police officer has been charged with second-degree murder in the killing of a young woman.
Marcus Arroyo Marrero is accused of firing his weapon without justification during a June 2013 traffic stop in the northern town of Naranjito. Puerto Rico Justice Secretary Cesar Miranda said Thursday that the shooting caused the death of 23-year-old Karla Aviles Acevedo.
Authorities have said Aviles was a passenger in a car with two other men whom police accuse of opening fire first.
It was not immediately clear if Arroyo had an attorney.
