Rights Activist Detained After Lodging Complaint
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) _ A Palestinian human rights activist was detained after suggesting that Palestinian interrogators may have tortured another detainee to death.
Mohammed Dahman was arrested late Monday by Palestinian police, the Addameer human rights group said Tuesday.
Dahman had published a statement Monday demanding that the Palestinian Authority investigate the death of Nahid Dahalan, a 24 year-old Gaza resident who was found dead last week hours after being interrogated by security forces.
Palestinian Attorney General Khaled Kidreh said an autopsy revealed Dahalan committed suicide by poisoning.
No immediate confirmation of Dahman’s arrest was available from the Palestinian Authority.
Dahman is the third human rights activist arrested this year after criticizing the Authority.
