Colorado murder suspects caught in Santa Fe
A father and his juvenile son wanted for murder in Colorado were arrested Thursday by New Mexico State Police at a McDonald’s on St. Francis Drive in Santa Fe.
The victim is believed to be Amy Garcia, 41, a single mother of four from Walsenburg, Colo., family members told Colorado Springs TV station KOAA.
Heith Gleason, 35, was jailed at the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Center without bond and Gage Gleason , 12, was booked into the Santa Fe Youth Development Program, state police said in a statement.
Police said they were contacted by the Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado, which had received information that the Gleasons were at the McDonald’s in Santa Fe. They were located in a gray Dodge truck and arrested without incident Thursday at about 11 a.m. A fugitive from justice warrant had been issued for the pair.
Authorities were aided in locating the Gleasons by tracking their cellphone, KOAA reported.
Officials at the Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office confirmed they had the report of a killing around 1:30 a.m. Thursday in a rural area near Gardner, an unincorporated community about 30 miles from the county seat of Walsenburg.
Authorities responded to a car fire and “the victim was found inside the car,” said Sheriff’s Office Capt. Corey Daniels.
State police are working with the Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation.
