November 23, 2018

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi’s top elections official says circuit clerks’ offices are open Saturday morning for people to cast absentee ballots for runoff elections.

The in-person absentee voting deadline is noon Saturday. Absentee ballots that are returned by mail must be received by circuit clerks’ offices by 5 p.m. Monday.

Overseas and military voters have a deadline of 7 p.m. Tuesday to return their absentee ballots.

Hosemann says more than 21,000 absentee ballots have been requested. People who will be out of town for Tuesday’s election may vote absentee.

Democrat Mike Espy and Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith are competing in a statewide runoff for a U.S. Senate seat.

There are also runoffs for some judicial posts and for two special elections to fill seats in the Mississippi House of Representatives.
