Smith, Kimball State Champs

WRENTHAM -- Ryan Smith of Shawsheen Tech and James Kimball of Nashoba Tech ran to Massachusetts State Vocational cross country championships Wednesday.

Smith was the Division 1 champion, covering the 5K (3.1 mile) distance in 17 minutes, 56 seconds.

Kimball was the Division 2 winner in a time of 17:41. Kimball defeated the runner-up by a minute and 45 seconds.

Meanwhile, the Shawsheen Tech girls ran to second as a team in Division 1.



The Rams placed sixth out of 23 teams. Alex Smith was 32nd in 19:52, while Stephen Basler (33rd, 19:59), Matt Hemenway (37th, 20:13) and Ryan Anderson (41st, 20:32) also ran well.


The Vikings were second in Division 2 with 74 points, trailing only Keefe Tech (58).

Mason St. Pierre was two spots behind Kimball, crossing third in 19:44, while Robert Paris took sixth in 19:52. Adam Kubasti was 30th in 21:53, Jake Desilva placed 34th in 22:12 and Austin Stankiewicz was 37th in 22:26.



The Rams finished second out of 11 teams led by Ivanna Wisky, who took third in 22:44.

Also finishing in the top 10 were Rachael Halas, who was fifth in 23:10, and Alex DiPerri, who was seventh in 23:34. Also running well were Jess Stevens (15th, 24:58) and Kelley DeLosh (23rd, 26:02).
