Authorities identify 2 Grand Island people killed in collision on I-80 near Utica
Two Grand Island people died following a collision between a pickup and a semi near the Utica exit on Interstate 80 on Friday morning, the Seward County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.
At 11:19 a.m., the eastbound pickup hit a patch of ice, lost control and went into the median and collided with the westbound semi.
The pickup’s driver, Kadar Mohamed, 30, and passenger Maryan Serar, 58, both of Grand Island, were pronounced dead at the scene. The semi driver was taken to Memorial Hospital in Seward for a head injury, according to the sheriff’s office, and is expected to be released Friday night.
Road conditions in the area were reported as partially snow-covered at the time of the crash.
The accident is being investigated by the sheriff’s office with help from the Nebraska State Patrol.
