DENVER (AP) _ Cimarex Energy Co. (XEC) on Tuesday reported second-quarter net income of $141 million.

The Denver-based company said it had net income of $1.48 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs, were $1.59 per share.

The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 25 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.64 per share.

The oil and natural gas company posted revenue of $556.3 million in the period, which also missed Street forecasts. Twenty-four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $557.3 million.

Cimarex shares have dropped 20 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $97.34, a rise of slightly more than 5 percent in the last 12 months.
