Three Hurt in Illinois Train Crash
MOMENCE, Ill. (AP) _ A freight train crashed into another one at an intersection of track early today, and some cars derailed. Three people suffered minor injuries.
The site is 11 miles from where an Amtrak crash killed 11 people last week.
A spokesman for Philadelphia-based Conrail said one of his company’s eastbound freight trains hit a southbound Union Pacific train on a track about 50 miles south of Chicago.
He had no details on the severity of the crash, injuries or how many cars derailed.
Firefighters responded about 7 a.m. There were no visible signs of fire.
The crash happened east of Bourbonnais, the site of last week’s Amtrak crash, but on a different track, officials said.
Teresa Ciaccio, a spokeswoman at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, said two people taken there with cuts and bruises were in good condition. A third patient was being assessed with minor injuries.
