Fort Wayne’s two largest health care providers welcomed new babies from different genders as their first newborns for 2019.
Lutheran Health Network saw its birth within 20 minutes of the new year starting. The health system announced the first baby at one of its Fort Wayne facilities arrived at 12:14 a.m. Tuesday.
The newborn, Ezekiel, is the son of Matt and Ashley, whose last names are not disclosed for safety and privacy reasons, Lutheran said.
Ezekiel weighed 7 pounds, 6 ounces and was 201/2 inches long at the time of birth. The baby and mother were doing well, Lutheran said in a Tuesday afternoon news release.
The safety and privacy measures, including nondisclosure of the exact hospital where the birth occurred and the family’s hometown, are consistent with ongoing guidance from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. Lutheran did release a photo of the newborn.
Parkview Health’s first Allen County baby born in the new year is Johanna Pennie-May. She was born at Parkview Regional Medical Center at 8:27 a.m., at 19 inches long and weighing 7 pounds, 14.6 ounces, spokeswoman Jessica Foor said through email.
