SAN CRISTOBAL DE LAS CASAS, Mexico (AP) _ A Canadian tourist was in stable condition with two gunshot wounds from a drive-by shooting on tourists at a Mexican hotel.

Jodi Christie, her boyfriend Dave Byer and other tourists were waiting for their door to open Sunday morning when a red car rolled up beside them on the quiet streets of this picturesque colonial city. One of the two men inside rolled down his window and aimed a pistol at them, Christie said Monday.

Christie heard six or seven gunshots, then saw her boyfriend tumble to the ground. Then she felt a sharp pain in her right thigh as a bullet grazed it.

``We were in the wrong place at the wrong time. But fortunately, we already were at the doorway of the hotel,″ said Christie, 21, who was treated for minor injuries.

Byer, 21, was in stable but delicate condition Monday. One gunshot perforated his lower intestine. No one else was injured in the shootings.

The assailants fled, but later returned and fired shots in the air, Christie said.

The suspects were still at large. Police offered no motives. The attorney general’s office said it had located four spent shells from a 9 mm gun on the street.
