Apr. 29, 2016
CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — A report from state troopers says a South Carolina firefighter who died last month had tried to jump onto a fire truck.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol's incident report said 42-year-old Christopher Ray of Green Sea slipped as he tried to leap onto the truck as it backed up at about 5 mph at a fire March 20.
The report says after slipping, Ray became tangled in the fire hose and the truck backed over him. He had been with the Conway Fire Department for six years and died at the scene.
Troopers say no charges will be filed against the driver of the fire truck.
