PHOENIX (AP) — Drivers along Interstate 17 should expect more overnight closures as the Arizona Department of Transportation continues to install a wrong-way car detection and warning system.

The closures will take place overnight Monday through Thursday and will impact the I-17 ramp to westbound Loop 101, along with the Glendale Avenue, Greenway Road, Yorkshire Drive and Utopia Road ramps.

ADOT's new system includes thermal cameras designed to detect wrong-way cars on I-17 and an alert system for drivers and police. It'll cost $3.7 million and comes after fatal wrong-way crashes.

Wrong-way crashes have caused at least 12 deaths in Arizona so far this year.
