Stomach Injury Sidelines Gaudio
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) _ French Open champion Gaston Gaudio will miss Argentina’s Davis Cup series against the Czech Republic next month because of a stomach injury.
``Unfortunately, I’m out,″ the eighth-ranked Gaudio said on Thursday, adding he would need at least three weeks of rest.
Gaudio, who won South American titles in Vina del Mar and Buenos Aires this month, withdrew from this week’s Mexican Open complaining of stomach pains.
Argentina captain Alberto Mancini said Juan Ignacio Chela or Agustin Calleri would likely replace Gaudio for the March 4-6 series in Buenos Aires.
Mancini hoped to have the trio of Gaudio, Guillermo Coria and David Nalbandian for the first time in Davis Cup competition.
Guillermo Canas will join No. 5 Coria and No. 9 Nalbandian.
