Fire leaves North Augusta home unlivable

December 20, 2018

A North Augusta home is no longer suitable to be lived in following a Wednesday fire, according to GVW Fire Chief Alan Kneece.

The fire caused “extensive” damage to the two-story home at 207 Big Cone Drive, particularly in the upstairs and attic areas, Kneece said while standing at the scene Wednesday afternoon.

No one was injured in the fire, according to both Kneece and Aiken County Sheriff Michael Hunt, who was also on scene.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known, Kneece said.

GVW, Belvedere and Merriwether fire crews, among others, responded to the blaze, which was initially described by dispatch as “fully engulfed.”

Hunt applauded the firefighters and their efforts to put the fire out.

“There was fire all the way along the roof,” Hunt said, pointing. “They did a good job.”
