Lawyer: Man charged with murder-for-hire plot was set up
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut man has been charged in a murder-for-hire plot, but the suspect’s attorney says his client was set up by police.
Talal Qatabi, of New Britain, was held on $750,000 bond on Tuesday at his arraignment on attempt to commit murder and drug charges.
Police say the warrant is sealed and they could not provide additional information about the alleged plot.
But the 22-year-old Qatabi’s attorney explained the details in court. Jon Schoenhorn says his client and several others saw a Facebook video showing a man making threats with a knife. He says Qatabi “made the mistake of commenting on that video.” An informant then approached Qatabi and offered to kill the man in the video for $1,500, a price Schoenhorn called “absurd.” He says no money was exchanged.
