EDINBURG, Texas (AP) _ Ron Coleman scored 21 points, including a key layup with 1:05 to play, helping Lamar beat Texas-Pan American 60-57 on Saturday night.

The Cardinals (10-11, 5-8 Sun Belt) trailed 34-23 at halftime. Then they began their comeback by hitting their first seven shots of the second half to spark a 23-7 run that gave them a 46-41 lead halfway through the second period.

Coleman's late layup gave the Cardinals a 59-54 lead, then Linwood Bonner hit his second straight 3-pointer to get the Broncs within 59-57.

Bonner led UTPA (8-13, 5-8) with 16 points. Reggy Scott had 14, although he missed a baseline jumper in the final seconds.

The Cardinals, who hit 68 percent of their shots in the second half, ended a three-game losing streak. The Broncs lost their fourth straight and sixth of seven.

Terry Johnson also starred for Lamar with 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
