FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — Frederick County is preparing for more rain, after already experiencing flooding and damage to roads.

Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner said Thursday she is declaring a state of emergency to get ready for more flooding and any additional damage. She says it’s an administrative step to maximize the availability of resources.

Gardner is asking residents to use caution when they encounter flooded roads and not take any risks. She’s urging residents to stay home, if possible.

Travel is not being restricted, but 21 roads have closed.

Charles Nipe, the county’s director of the department of public works, says it will take up to a month to repair damage.
