October 16, 2017

NEW BERN, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say a student at a North Carolina community college is in custody after they were seen carrying a gun on campus.

Craven County sheriff’s deputies told local media outlets that the student was found on Monday with a gun on the campus of Craven Community College.

A sheriff’s office spokesman says the initial report of the armed student came from another student around 10:15 a.m. A college spokesman says the student was seen with the gun in a stairwell in the Business Information and Technology Building.

Deputies and New Bern police responded to the call and the gun was found a short time later. The school was placed on lockdown for approximately 45 minutes, and the unidentified student was taken into custody.

There’s been no word on charges.
