New program to train app developers in Caribbean

June 10, 2014

KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) — The World Bank and the Caribbean’s biggest university on Tuesday launched a new partnership that’s intended to encourage the regional development of mobile app entrepreneurs.

The World Bank says the Caribbean Mobile Innovation Program will provide training and mentorships to developers from across the Caribbean who hope to build viable mobile app businesses.

The effort was launched late Tuesday afternoon at Jamaica’s campus of the University of the West Indies and is a follow-up to earlier technology initiatives. People in six Caribbean countries will participate.

A World Bank statement says the new program is intended to “recruit and nurture a next generation of talented mobile entrepreneurs” in the region.
