Barefoot Networks to Showcase Programmable Data Plane Use Cases with SONiC and Other Solutions at Open Compute Project Global Summit 2019
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar 14, 2019--Barefoot Networks, a provider of high-performance and fully programmable networking solutions, today announced that it will be sponsoring Open Compute Project Global Summit 2019, March 14-15, in San Jose, Calif., with several demonstrations and presentations highlighting the power of P4-programmability and programmable data planes for open infrastructure.
The growth of cloud computing over the past year has accelerated the pressure on networks to be more flexible and nimble than ever before. While disaggregation and availability of mature disaggregated network operating systems have enabled agility in control and management planes, true network agility can not be achieved without a dataplane that is fully programmable in an open language. Hence, only the combination of an operating system such as Software for Open Networking in the Cloud ( SONiC ) based on Switch Abstraction Interface (SAI), Barefoot Tofino and P4 can truly unlock the potential of a next-generation cloud network.
“Since announcing SONiC support at OCP Summit 2018, Barefoot has worked closely with Microsoft to expand the set of SONiC capabilities on Tofino as well as number of customers using SONiC in production,” said Ed Doe, Chief Business Officer, Barefoot Networks. “Delivering a unique approach to high availability features, such as fast reboot and warm reboot in addition to advanced features like VxLAN and data plane telemetry based on Dtel SAI APIs and Smart Programmable Real Time INT (SPRINT), has allowed us to accelerate customer adoption of SONiC on P4-programmable data planes.”
“Driven by the increased need for open cloud networking, the SONiC and SAI communities have made tremendous advancements over the past year,” said Yousef Khalidi, CVP, Microsoft Azure Networking. “Barefoot Networks has advanced SONiC on a P4-programmable data plane with an increased number of supported use cases such as bare metal ToR and spine and is demonstrating on a diverse set of switch platforms at this year’s OCP Summit.”
Barefoot Networks will host various demonstrations at its booth (A18) as well as at partners’ booths. See “ Bringing OCP Vision to Reality with Programmable Data Planes: A Progress Report ” blog for more information on the demonstrations and presentations that will showcase the tremendous progress in adoption of programmable data planes and P4 that Barefoot Networks and its partners have achieved over the past year.
