Airline Cancels 55 Domestic Weekend Flights

December 5, 1987

OSLO, Norway (AP) _ The Scandinavian Airlines System canceled 25 domestic flights Saturday and 30 others set for Sunday because Norwegian air controllers still refuse to work overtime, the airline said.

The cancellations came despite the end late Friday of a work slowdown by SAS’ Norwegian mechanics and loaders called three weeks ago over a wage dispute.

Union spokesmen and SAS said a tentative wage agreement was reached.

The slowdown and refusal of state-employed air controllers to work overtime has forced SAS to cancel hundreds of domestic and dozens of inter-Scandinavian flights since mid-November.

SAS chief negotiator Frode Christensen was quoted Saturday by the Norwegian national news agency NTB as saying ″It may still take one week before the flight schedule is back to normal.″
