Homeless Man Charged With Aggravated Assault, Related Charges After Struggling With Scranton Police
SCRANTON — A homeless man is charged with aggravated assault and related charges after struggling with city police early Monday morning.
Police arrested Tyler Shaffer, 23, after an officer heard a fight between Shaffer and a woman, Shannon O’Brien, near the intersection of North Seventh Avenue and West Lackawanna Avenue at about 2:30 a.m. When the officer investigated, Shaffer tried to flee. He struggled when police tackled him and reached for the officer’s duty belt, police said.
After police handcuffed Shaffer, O’Brien told officers Shaffer wanted to show her where he had been sleeping, in a UHaul-type truck parked in a nearby lot. Shaffer then grabbed her and she fell to the ground. When she wanted to leave, he wouldn’t let her, police said.
Shaffer is held in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $10,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 25.
