Butler Shuts Down No. 22 Vols 56-44
NEW YORK (AP) _ Julian Betko scored 11 of his career-high 15 points in a decisive second-half run to give Butler a 56-44 victory over No. 22 Tennessee on Wednesday night in the NIT Season Tip-Off semifinals.
With Butler leading by one, Betko hit three 3-pointers and a layup to give the Bulldogs a 46-38 lead with 7:49 left in the game.
The Bulldogs (5-0) moved on to Friday night’s championship game against the winner of the late semifinal at Madison Square Garden between No. 2 North Carolina and Gonzaga. The Volunteers (4-1) will play in the consolation game.
Tennessee, which was averaging 82.5 points before Wednesday’s loss, shot just 25 percent from the field. The Vols were 3-for-29 (10 percent) from the floor in the second half.
