Tri County dairy team wins state championship
The Tri County Ag Education Milk Quality and Dairy Products Team brought home the first place state plaque on Aug. 25. The team consisted of Savannah Gerlach, Taylor Cammack, Tiffany Pearson and Alexis Gerritse.
The State Career Development Event (CDE) was held at the Nebraska State Fairgrounds and the Central Community College campus. Teams across the state competed in four areas; cheese identification, a written milk marketing and dairy processing exam, milk products identification and milk off-flavors identification. Bertrand-Loomis finished second and McCook placed third.
Individually, Tri County was lead by Gerlach’s first place finish as state champion. She earned a purple ribbon and gold medal. Pearson received the silver medal and purple ribbon for finished second. Cammack completed the Tri County sweep by placing third and earning the bronze medal and purple ribbon. Gerritse placed seventh and claimed a blue ribbon. To receive a ribbon the contestants had to place in the top half of the judging. The team earned the right to represent Nebraska at the National FFA Convention in October in Indianapolis.
